Portofino and the Rain Shower

This morning, after feasting on an amazing breakfast at the hotel, we walked back to the village square and on the way we had our downpour. It is amazing how the streets clear of people when it rains here.

Fortunately, Anne had an umbrella and I had a light waterproof jacket. We found our way to the bus stop to Portofino. About 5km along the coast.

The road is pretty harrowing- a cliff on one side and a rock face on the other. There are countless blind corners that could not fit a bus and a car so the bus honks in warning. A few times, drivers coming the other way had to back up in order to let the bus pass.

Portofino is a fishing town that opted out of the luxurious tourist destination development choosing to stay small and authentic. Crazily enough, it appears that the massive yachts parked in the small bay had other ideas. Definitely a haven for the very rich yet the towns hotels look very much like they probably did 100 or so years ago. A very unique and special place

We saw the coolest restaurant on a floating wharf. While the people were eating, the floor was moving to the rhythm of the waves in the sea.
