Halifax Layover

Due to a WestJet booking mistake, we ended up with a paid hotel stay in Halifax. None of us had been to Halifax so when life gives you lemons….

We figured out the city bus system and headed out to the city boardwalk after a great nights sleep. One of the highlights in the walk was the sea bridge, a floating wharf that would make a sailor sea sick.

Our Visit to the Pier One Immigration Museum had to be the highlight of Halifax for me. Situated in the actual building that immigrants to Canada were processed, the stories and photos took you back in time and made you appreciate the incredible experience it must have been, both good and bad.

Across from Pier 21 is an island where sick immigrants were quarantined. Many families were detained in a refugee type section of the building until issues were resolved. But for many, once their paperwork was stamped, they boarded trains to various locations across Canada to begin their new lives.
