Thank God for those round-abouts.

Although we are getting used to Irish roads and driving on the other side, it still takes a few GPS reconfigurations to get to our destinations. We managed to make our way to The Hill of Tara but it felt like we drove across Canada to get there! But wow! Was it worth it.

After reading Frank Delaneys ‘Ireland’, actually standing on this ancient holy ground was amazing. Dating back to Irish Druids and Kings, the Hill of Tara played a significant role in Irish history. It was the ancient inaugural place of the high kings and predates the pyramids. The site was ravaged over the years by people and groups believing that it contained neolithic buried treasures. It is currently a UNESCO protected site and all archaeological exploration is now noninvasive with geological imaging to find undiscovered burial mounds and evidence of habitation. Unlike Newgrange, a larger mound, you cannot go into the structure.

We watched a video in an decommissioned Church of Ireland (Protestant) at the site and were part of a guided group facilitated by a well informed and patriotic Irish woman.
